Mild and windy pattern developing this week

Posted

BOZEMAN – High-pressure is slowly building over the western U.S. this week and a slow warming trend. Forecast highs for most of SW Montana (not all) are back in the 40s by the end of the week.

This blocking ridge pattern will produce mostly dry weather through Wednesday, but a weak pacific storm will begin to enter the Pacific NW and produce mountain snow showers in WA, OR, ID and far western Montana by Thursday evening.

Travel impacts are likely for mountain passes Thursday into Friday on the MT/ID state line like: Lookout, Lolo, Lost Trail passes in far western Montana. Lesser impacts with scattered snow and wind Thursday into Friday for Monida, Raynolds, Targhee passes and West Yellowstone.

As the ridge builds stronger this week surface winds will develop and in high wind prone areas wind gusts over 30 mph are possible.

The National Weather Service has a Wind Advisory up for the Livingston area Monday night through Wednesday morning.

Strong crosswinds over I-90 in the Livingston area could peak around 50 to 60 mph at times. This will be a hazard to high profile vehicles and could shut down I-90 at times.
