DILLON – A hyper-local snow bomb hit the Dillon area producing one of the heaviest snowfalls in nearly 30 years December 24-26, 2019.
The National Weather Service reports 10” to 13” of snow was measured in the Dillon area by Thursday morning. Snow started on the 24th and diminished by Tuesday evening but started up again around noon on the 25th and continued into the early morning hours on the 26th.
This is the heaviest snowfall over a three-day period in Dillon since October 27-28, 1991 with 15.7”
Just outside of town at the Dillon airport they measured 13” of snow this morning and that is the deepest amount of snow since February 1949.
The National Weather Service tells us that Dillon was the only lower valley to be impacted by this hyper-local storm. Mountain snotel sites in Madison, Gallatin, Beaverhead counties did see 5” to 13” and those are above 6,000’.
