A wildfire burning in grass brush and timber broke out about 3 miles northeast of Bannack Saturday afternoon, fire officials say.

According to the Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center, the Bon Accord Fire started around 4 p.m. Saturday and has burned an estimated 50 to 80 acres so far, heading away from Bannack.

Four Type 6 engines, 2 Type 2 helicopters, and 2 Type one air tankers are assigned to the fire, along with a ground crew of 35 firefighters.

Crews have been facing erratic winds around small thunderstorms with some lightning. Further personnel is expected to arrive Sunday morning.

No reports of injuries or property damage have been received at this time. We will update this story as we get more information.

Bannack is south of Dillon, a ghost town that was the Capitol in 1864.

Gold was discovered there, and it's now managed by the State of Montana as Bannack State Park.
