Critical fire weather conditions for Wednesday afternoon and evening

Posted

BOZEMAN – It’s a high-impact weather day for most of Montana as a mostly dry cold front passes through the state.

Ahead of the front look for gusty winds, low humidity, and warm to hot temperatures. Those three factors are the reason for a RED FLAG WARNING over SW Montana through 9 pm this evening.

Under these conditions, human-caused fires are very likely so we urge all of you to be extremely careful with all outdoor activities this afternoon into this evening to avoid starting a fire.

Small fires can quickly grow out of control.

Temperatures will cool slightly behind the cold front for a few days beginning Thursday and continue into Friday. However, temperatures will once again jump back up into the hot 90s late weekend into early next week.
