BOZEMAN – NW flow aloft is producing cooler temperatures and more wind Wednesday afternoon across Montana. A strong cold front passed through the state Tuesday evening and there is some left over moisture that could bring areas of valley rain or snow Wednesday evening into Thursday morning with minor snow accumulations for mountains and passes.
Strong winds will diminish after sunset tonight, but a HIGH WIND WARNING continues through 6 pm Wednesday for most of SW Montana east of the divide.
The next weather maker is building just north of Hawaii and will lift into Canada over the next couple of days and then drop down into Montana Friday night into Saturday.
Another round of strong surface winds are possible Friday afternoon and evening and in high wind prone areas gusts could be stronger than 50 mph east of the divide.
There will be increasing moisture with the next storm front Friday night into Saturday with valley rain or snow and mountain snow. Cooler air will drop down into Montana by Sunday morning with snow levels likely to drop down into the lower valley floor.
NOAA will issue their official 2020-2021 winter outlook Thursday morning. It appears a La Nina will impact our winter season. Look for updates tomorrow.
