A few rumbles Thursday afternoon and evening

BOZEMAN – A SW flow continues to lift monsoon moisture into Montana producing mostly cloudy skies and scattered thunderstorms Thursday.

Stronger thunderstorms are likely for most of eastern Montana with garden variety rumbles over SW Montana. Bozeman has a better chance for thunderstorms while there is only a slight chance for an isolated rumble.

The overall weather pattern will be quiet for Friday and Saturday. Mostly dry and warm for SW Montana.

The next weather maker will arrive late weekend. A deep trough of low-pressure will dig into the Pacific NW and southern Canada. This will bring chilly temperatures back to Montana by Sunday and Monday.

Kicking off the change will be a stronger surface cold front late Saturday into Sunday. This will likely produce gusty winds and scattered showers with a few isolate thunderstorms mostly on Sunday.

Higher elevated valleys could see morning lows fall below freezing by Monday and Tuesday. Plan now to be ready to cover flower beds and vegetable gardens to protect them from a killing frost.

Temperatures will be well below normal Sunday and Monday locally but should gradually moderate beginning Tuesday afternoon of next week.
