Bitterly cold forecast lows for Friday morning

BUTTE – As predicted another extremely cold night is coming to Montana and this could be one of the coldest nights of the winter season locally for SW Montana.

Light snow is ending Thursday afternoon and as skies clear after sunset temperatures will begin to fall rapidly and likely drop below zero after midnight.

Flood Warning

The National Weather Service continues a FLOOD WARNING for the Ennis as an ice jam is backing up water near Ennis.

This is a dangerous hazard and everyone should avoid the impacted areas as rising water levels, ice and debris impacts this region.

A new pacific storm dropping out of Alaska down into the Pacific NW and Northern Rockies is coming this weekend.

SW Montana could see periods of moderate valley snow and mountains and passes at times could see moderate to heavy snow accumulations Sunday through Tuesday.

It’s still too early to get specific on accumulation totals but forecast models are predicting a widespread snow event this weekend into early next week. Start planning on difficult to hazardous travel impacts starting Saturday night. Updates on the next weather maker tonight at 5:30 pm and 10 pm on KXLF.

BOZEMAN: LOW: -13°; HIGH FRIDAY: 20°. Clearing and bitterly cold by Friday morning. Light winds could produce wind chill (feels like) temperatures between -15 to -40. Mostly sunny and cold Friday afternoon

BUTTE: LOW: -25°; HIGH FRIDAY: 19°. Clearing and extremely cold by Friday morning. Well below zero lows with light winds it could feel like -15 to -40 below at times in the early morning hours. Friday will be a sunny and cold day.

DILLON: LOW: -15°; HIGH FRIDAY: 20°. Mostly clear and bitterly cold by Friday morning. Light winds in the early morning hours could produce wind chill values colder than -20 below zero at times.

WEST YELLOWSTONE: LOW: -32°; HIGH FRIDAY: 19°. Extremely cold with clearing skies for West Yellowstone and Yellowstone National Park by Friday morning. A light 5 to 10 mph breeze could send wind chill values down between -30 to -40 below or colder at times. Friday will be a sunny and very cold day.
