BUTTE - A Butte distillery received a grant from the state for its innovation in creating hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Headframe Spirits received a $25,000 Montana Innovation Grant after its staff created a machine that makes ethanol safe for human use in hand sanitizer.

The company began making sanitizer as a way to give back to the community during these dark times of the pandemic.

“And someone lit a fire, and someone added a little fuel to that fire and we all started pushing back out of that cave. These guys and gals, this team, elected for this to be part of that fire, this is how we were going to do our part to push back,” said John McKee co-owner of the distillery.

Headframe Spirits has a supply of sanitizer already made for the next wave of coronavirus cases, if needed.
