Lewis and Clark Caverns is Montana’s first state park, and for a short period of time you can experience the caves in a new light.
Usually, this time of year, the cave is not open for tours. But several years ago, FWP began holding candlelight tours during the holiday season. This year candlelight tours will be on December 20-22 and then again December 27-29. Eight tours will be offered each day running from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Reservations are required and space fills fast.
To make a reservation, call (406) 287-3541. Tickets are $20 for adults, $8 for kids 6-11 and kids younger than six are discouraged because the tour is two miles long and takes two hours.
Tour sizes are limited and there are no refunds for tickets. Morgan Jacobsen from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks says visitors need to be aware of the weather. The trail could have snow and ice and it is more than a mile to the entrance tunnel. Inside, the caverns stay at 48 degrees.
