Montana is special for migratory bird hunters because it has two distinct flyways to choose from. Region 3 Warden Captain Adam Pankratz talked with Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman This Week in Fish and Wildlife about migratory bird hunting in Montana.
Pankratz noted the rules are slightly different for each flyway so hunters need to be educated. Lead free ammunition must be used when hunting migratory birds. There are also rules governing how many shells you can have in your shotgun while hunting. Pankratz also reminds hunters using boats to follow Montana’s rules for life jackets.
He also reminds people that water is much colder in during hunting season, and people are dressed much differently than in the summer - A plunge in to a pond during hunting season could be deadly.
