The Montana Governor’s Goat Tag was auctioned off this weekend for a whopping $60,500.

The Great Falls chapter of Safari Club International held their annual banquet Saturday.

It was the 10th year they have auctioned off the governor’s tag for a Montana mountain goat.

Ninety percent of the auction proceeds go back to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Banquet Chair Patty Ehrhardt said the auction keeps with the club’s tradition of promoting conservation and hunting.

Last year, the tag sold for $30,000, but this year is a new record.

“It was electric is all I can tell you,” said Ehrhardt.  “We had 350 people there, the crowd got into it, everybody was cheering and kind of egging each bidder on. We had two bidders right there on the floor so really very high level of excitement.”

She said over the years the auction has raised about $208,000 for FWP.

The banquet also raised money for Hooked On Fishing Not Drugs, new flagpoles at Highland Cemetery, and the Grace Home Veterans Center.
