BOZEMAN — Gallatin County Sheriff/Coroner Dan Springer says his office and the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024.
A Sheriff's Office press release says the crash happened on Interstate 90 near mile marker 317 and the Trail Creek Road exit. The motorcyclist was the only person involved.
MHP's fatality crash report says the incident happened around 9:04 a.m. on Tuesday. A 57-year-old man from Spokane, Washington was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on I-90 when he attempted to pass another vehicle in the right lane.
According to the MHP report, the man went off the roadway and drove into the drainage ditch where the motorcycle overturned.
Sheriff Springer says the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center. Blunt force trauma was determined to be the cause of death; MHP's report indicates the man was wearing a helmet. Speed is suspected as a factor in the crash.
Sheriff Springer extended his deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends.
The motorcyclist has not been identified, and no further details have been released.
