BUTTE, Mont. – NorthWestern Energy (NWE) has announced it is replacing 43,000 high-pressure sodium streetlights with LED lights across Montana.
NWE says the company is working with Four Corners Recycling in Bozeman and has recycled nearly 2,500 lights so far.
“Four Corners recycles all parts of the old lights, including the metal heads, the glass lenses and the bulbs, some of which contain mercury,” NWE said in a media release.
According to the release, streetlights in Billings and Helena are being replaced currently. Butte, Bozeman, Missoula, and Havre are scheduled for the switchover to LED lights next year, with Great Falls slated for streetlight replacement and recycling in 2021.
NWE says the streetlight project will cost $120,000, or $2.90 a fixture.
