PORT ANGELES, WA – Washington authorities have identified a man killed in a logging-related helicopter crash as a pilot from Missoula.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says 44-year old Joshua Michael Tripp was killed early Friday morning shortly after he radioed that his chopper was going down west of Port Angeles.

Tripp, who was the owner of Iron Eagle Helicopter was working with a helicopter logging operation when he ran into trouble.

The crash happened in rugged, steep forested terrain between Highway 101 and West Twin Road, a frequently logged area about 30 miles west of Port Angeles.

Deputies say a logger confirmed Tripp had died in the crash when he was able to reach the wreckage more than an hour after the helicopter went down.
