A Helena College student is thrilled after winning $15,000 from a scratch ticket.
Wasiin Naytha Ragged Robe originally thought she won $15, however.
“I got kind of happy,” the 20-year-old said. “I could use $15.”
The Montana Lottery reported that Ragged Robe’s mom picked up three scratch tickets Monday night at Helena’s Friendly’s Sinclair gas station at 1831 11th Avenue. She gave two tickets to her daughter.
One ticket was Deluxe Super Hot 7’s, a $2 game.
Ragged Robe started scratching it and thought she won $15, according to the Montana Lottery.
“But then I realized it was a comma, not a period,” she said. The $15 she thought she’d won was really $15,000.
“I just sat there and stared at it a while,” Ragged Robe said. “And then I screamed. It’s the best gift my mom ever gave me.”
The money will help her stay in college and get caught up on bills. Ragged Robe said she’ll give some to her mom as well.
The Montana Lottery was created by referendum in 1986. Since then, it has paid over $590 million in prizes and returned approximately $259 million to the State of Montana, according to a press release.
