HELENA- For 100 years, the Montana Farm Bureau has been a voice for farmers and ranchers. On Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, the group’s centennial anniversary, was proclaimed Montana Farm Bureau Federation Day by Gov. Steve Bullock and the 66th Montana Legislature. Over the last century, MFBF’s grass-roots policy has shaped agriculture and the state’s economy.

Stevensville rancher and Montana Farm Bureau President Hans McPherson believes that his organization has made a difference for the state.

“Montana Farm Bureau has walked these halls,” said McPherson. “We have some of the most respected lobbyists in this building. When people want to learn things about agriculture whether its legislators or agency officials, they come and find Montana Farm Bureau, they get the answers to their questions and concerns. We have got good results and done great things for the people of Montana.”

John Youngberg, the farm bureau’s executive director, added that over the past century, the group’s work has “created so much credibility in Helena and that’s built into why we are being recognized by the governor and the Legislature today.”

Bullock and elected officials joined farmers and ranchers in celebrating Montana agriculture.

“Montana Farm Bureau is a voice that represents the original small businesses in Montana,” said Bullock. “They are the original conservationists. People who want to make sure land is sustainable not just for today but for centuries to come. Farm Bureau represents the bridge from Montana to markets all across the world that recognize the brand of Montana because of what we produce and ship to every corner of this country.”

Melville rancher Bonita Cremer says she values all that Montana Farm Bureau has done for agriculture.

“It is so uplifting to be a part of an organization that is so valued here in Helena and throughout the state for the good work that we do, have done for one hundred years and will continue to do into the future,” said Cremer.  “It’s such an honor to be a part of such a prestigious organization that supports and advocates for agriculture.”

Bullock’s proclamation of Farm Bureau Federation Day on Feb. 13 is just one of the many events Farm Bureau will celebrate throughout 2019. For more on the Montana Farm Bureau and their centennial events visit mfbf.org.
