Police say there is no conclusive evidence that a patrol car was shot at earlier this month in downtown Missoula.

Interim Missoula Police Chief Mike Colyer said Tuesday morning that no bullet, or bullet fragments, have been found.

MPD is considering the possibility that a vehicle malfunction caused the patrol car's rear window to shatter as part of their investigation.

Colyer says results are inconclusive at this time as to what caused the window to shatter.

The incident began at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 12 when an officer driving in the 400 block of Woody Street reported the rear window of his patrol car had been shot out.

The patrol car has been X-rayed twice with Missoula Police Department spokesman Sgt. Travis Welsh noting a 6" hole was found.

Colyer said on Tuesday that witnesses identified in security footage of the area have all been interviewed.

He added that the officer involved is back to work after taking just a couple days off following the incident.

Several streets in downtown Missoula were shut down and businesses were asked to shelter in place as law enforcement searched the area.
