Authorities are investigating the death of a teen who struck a train while fleeing tribal police on the Crow reservation last week.

Montana Highway Patrol troopers said the boy was trying to outrun tribal officials on Highway 451 around 6 p.m. Nov. 24 between Garryowen and Lodge Grass when he missed a curve, crashed through brush and struck a BNSF train head on.

The 2015 Chevrolet Malibu car was thrown from the rails consumed by fire, according to troopers.

Troopers say the boy was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol, drugs and speed are all considered factors.

The teen has not been identified.
