BUTTE — Santa got an early start in Butte making deliveries to the kids in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program.

“I’m hoping we don’t all get really emotional, but it’s that time of year,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Laci Ridder.

The program had to cancel its annual Christmas party due to COVID-19 but decided to hold a parade to safely deliver presents and food to the children and their families.

“We had a few kids in our program that we haven’t gotten to see because of COVID, so it will be nice to see some of those kids on the route tonight too,” said Ridder.

To go along with the presents, volunteers packed food for the families for a nice Christmas meal.

“There’s a lot of them that are hurting and need the extra help and we know a lot of the families that we serve are needing the meals this year especially,” said Ridder.

And as Santa gets ready to deliver the food and toys to the good little boys and girls, it’s also a special time for the staff at Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

“Some of the matches haven’t been able to go into the schools and see the littles they’ve been matched with, also me, I haven’t been able to go into the schools and see them, so it’s just going to be great to drive by their house and be able to see them and see how happy they are,” said BBBS member Heidi Ogan.
