Update: Lockdown lifted at MSU Billings after reports of possible gunman

Billings police said on Twitter the lockdown has been lifted.

The tweet states: MSUB was put on Lockdown due to a 3rd hand threat for a gunman. MSUB requested assistance while they are sweeping the school. No Active threat at this time

In a subsequent tweet, police said the threat was determined to be unfounded after no threat was found on campus following a search.

A short time later the university issued this statement:

MSUB Emergency Notification: ALL CLEAR. The situation is all clear. University Police and Billings Police have searched all University Campus buildings and have not found suspicious activity. They have given the all clear. Those on campus are no longer in lockdown and normal activity can resume.

BILLINGS - Officials at Montana State University Billings warned late Tuesday morning of a possible gunman en route to the campus.

In a Facebook post at about 11 a.m., the university issued an emergency statement asking everyone on campus to lock doors and not to leave their departments. Anyone not on campus was asked to stay away.

The full statement reads:

MSUB EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION: MSU Billings received reports of a potential gunman coming to University Campus. Please lock your departments and campus buildings. Do not leave your departments until you've received the all clear.If you are not on campus, stay away. Report any suspicious activity to MSUB Police 406-657-2222 or call 911. Monitor university website and your university email.
