Butte hopes Montana Folk Fest will return this summer

BUTTE - The coronavirus stopped the music for this year’s Montana Folk Festival — but is there a chance to bring the three-day Butte music festival back in 2021?

“We’re seeing some promising signs with vaccines and if it’s possible, if we’re able to do it, we’ll do it in July,” said festival organizer George Everett.

Organizers are hoping to know by January if a vaccine is ready and if they can book enough staff and performers in time to put on the event.

“Performers, some of them have told us they’re not touring in 2021 so we’ve got to adapt,” said Everett.

There still may be safety protocols put in place if the festival is allowed to happen, or it may get delayed for later in the summer.

“It comes down to whether we can do it safely and not risk a super-spreader event of grand proportion,” said Everett.

It’s certainly a long time between now and July, but if the Montana Folk Festival does return to Butte next summer, people are going to be eager to have a good time.

“Everyone is going to be hungry for musical events and not just the audience, that’s the performers. They have been doing virtual performances for a year now and they’re ready to get out in front of a live audience,” said Everett.

At least for now, the event is set for July 9th through the 11th.
