BUTTE — As cases of people testing positive for COVID-19 continue to raise, Butte’s Health Department is hiring more on-call employees to help handle the added caseloads.

“Part of the hiring process is for planning, planning for what we anticipate what may happen, and to make sure that we have the appropriate level of staff to respond,” said Tina Randall, the Community Health Division Director for the Butte Health Department.

The health department is looking for people to be contact tracers who will work with people who have tested positive to find out who they’ve had contact with and help with information on how to quarantine and prevent spreading the virus.

“The ideal candidate is somebody with good interviewing skills, some motivational interviewing to be able to listen to the person that you're talking to and ask the right questions to get the information that we need,” said Randall.

They also need delivery drivers to take test samples to the lab in Helena, as well as call center staff to answer calls from the public.

“Providing information to the public and also taking any complaints of any violations that may be occurring in town,” said Randall.

These jobs that are offered are a good way for people to earn some money, but also be a part of the solution.

“It’s a chance for some of our local folks to not only earn money but just to be a part of the solution and help our community prevent the spread of COVID,” said Randall.
