BUTTE — “Thank you very much!”
“Happy Thanksgiving!”
Volunteers at Butte’s Emergency Food Bank are giving people a reason to be thankful during this difficult time.
“I think the people at the Butte Food Bank are awesome people, they are here to serve the people that need help,” said food bank client Beryl Burger.
In just three days they’ve given away more than 150 turkeys and have seen double the people they normally serve.
“It’s just crazy, people are in need, and thank god to Butte we’re able to feed anyone who comes,” said Food Bank Director Kathy Griffith.
Many people say they rely on the food bank.
“I mean, I lot of us can’t afford to by food right now, I mean, I have a job and everything, but it doesn’t pay enough,” said Brian.
The volunteers like to give of their time during the holidays.
“With things being different this year and not having any travel plans or things being really slow I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a few extra hours this week,” said volunteer Margo Ensz.
It’s certainly been a rough year, but the folks who work here at the food bank say that volunteering is a great way to take some of the sting out of these difficult times.
“Just something a little beyond what you do normally for yourself and help somebody else and that’s a good thing,” said volunteer Bob Worley.
