BUTTE – Butte’s Norwegian community celebrated its heritage Friday in the Mining City.
The Butte chapter of the Daughters of Norway celebrated Norwegian Constitution Day with pastries in the rotunda of the Butte Courthouse and then raised the Norwegian flag outside the courthouse while singing Norway’s national anthem.
Norwegians have a rich history in Butte.
“We came here to do mining or we came to Montana for forestry and things like that, because the mountainous people were drawn to this area because it’s very similar to some of the fjords over in Norway,” said Dorothy Anne Honeychurch of the Daughters of Norway.
The Daughters of Norway in Butte have been active for more than 100 years.
