UPDATE: Car in fatal hit-and-run located, investigation continues

UPDATE: Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester has confirmed that the car involved in an early morning fatal hit-and-run has been located. The case remains under investigation.


BUTTE, Mont. – Butte Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Dewey Boulevard near Lexington Avenue.  The incident occurred at approximately 1:53 a.m. Friday morning.

According to Sheriff Ed Lester, a man on a motorcycle died after a crash between him and a passenger car.

The passenger car involved left the scene and police are searching for the vehicle.  The suspect vehicle is believed to be a black 2014 Subaru XV. The vehicle possibly has Montana license plate 1-23956A.  

Law enforcement has provided a stock photo of the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle was northbound on Lexington as it left the scene.

Butte Police and Montana Highway Patrol officers will be investigating at the scene for several more hours.  

The public is asked to avoid the area, if possible.  Anyone having information about this incident is asked to contact Butte Police at 497-1120.
