BUTTE, Mont. – The ribbon cutting for Stodden Park has been pushed back to the end of May due to the heavy snowfall this year.

Parks and Recreation Director J.P. Gallagher said the construction has been delayed a month and that the park will not be finished until at least Memorial Day weekend.

“Last year this time, we had people out here golfing,” said Gallagher. “So it really is unique. We know we are going to have some extreme events and stuff, and we will just work through it.”

The park—which houses the brand-new, $1 million destination playground Ridge Waters, and the Columbia Gardens Carousel—has been under construction for the past couple of years. This spring, construction halted while an outside contractor cleared the snow.

The city was not able to clear the snow because snowblowers needed to be used, which the city currently does not have.

Gallagher said because of the conditions of the field, Butte Central and Butte High School have not been able to use the softball fields.
