Butte Food Bank helping the needy this Christmas

Posted

BUTTE – To say the Butte Emergency Food Bank is busy this time of year is an understatement.

“My gosh, it’s never ending. It’s chaos every day up here,” said Food Bank Director Kathy Griffith.

With Christmas coming, the food bank is expected to serve more than 3,000 needy people and families this month. The recently-held Thompson food drive collected almost 73,000 pounds of food and nearly $50,000 this year for the food bank.

“So, we did awesome. This town really came through for that,” said Griffith.

The food bank also receives donations from all the local supermarkets and businesses to keep its shelves stocked.

“All the little companies in town have been very generous also, so it’s been great. We should be ok,” said Griffith.

The food bank has over 100 dedicated volunteers who come here every day to sort food; in fact, they’re so dedicated they were nominated volunteers of the year by the Butte BLDC.

“I have over 120 volunteers who are all professional and none of this could happen without them, they’re pretty amazing,” said Griffith.

Volunteer Mickey Rudy added, “Oh they are a great group of people they are all very hard workers, all of them.”

Filling a need.
