BUTTE – Marines are good at fighting and gathering toys.

“We could use more toys if somebody has the opportunity to buy some and bring them to us,” said Marine Corps League member Ron Evans.

Members of Butte’s Marine Corps League are gathering toys for the Toys for Tots program to make sure needy children in Butte get presents for Christmas

“They all get three toys and five stocking stuffers that are in the other room or four toys at certain ages,” said volunteer Lynda Evans.

About a dozen members gather the toys and bag them up to be given to the Mining City Christmas program at Action Inc.

“They give us a list of children and then we box it up for them put it in the sack, take it up there and they distribute it,” said Ron Evans.

Every week the Marines gather the toys, fill up the shelves, but the shelves empty quickly. They need more toys for older girls and older boys and are running low on basketballs and footballs.

“We’re short of remote cars, we’ve got two left. Dinosaurs, we’re out of dinosaurs, we’re out of Paw Patrol, we’ll take anything,” said Lynda Evans.

The veterans dedicate much time to this cause, but they say it’s worth it.

“ So they have something at Christmas like everyone should have and it works well for us, we enjoy giving it out,” said Ron Evans.

People can donate toys at Toys for Tots boxes located at several businesses around Butte or drop off toys at the Marine Corps League building at 525 Garden Avenue.
