BUTTE – The historic Butte building that once housed one of the country’s longest operating brothels was sold Wednesday to a couple from Forsyth, Montana.

City officials confirmed the building of the former Dumas Brothel on East Mercury Street in Butte was bought at auction by David and Charlee Prince of Forsyth.

The couple plan to renovate the building, open it up for tours as well as use the reputed haunted building for researching the supernatural.

“Guided tours through it as wells as being able to do some ghost hunting in there, have ghost hunting. I’m friends with sort of famous ghost hunters and I’ve already spoken with a couple of them and they’re pretty stoked about the possibility of being able to come up here as well,” said David Prince.

The city put the building up for auction after the previous owner went four years delinquent on the property taxes.
