Update: 1 dead in shooting south of Red Lodge

Update 4:45 p.m.

One man died after a shooting outside of Red Lodge this morning, according to Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan.

It happened a little after 10 a.m. on Lake Fork Road off of Highway 212, six miles south of Red Lodge.

McQuillan says a man in his mid-40's was shot and pronounced dead at the scene by law enforcement.

McQuillan says three other people, including the person who fired the weapon, are cooperating.

No one is in custody yet.

Detectives are still investigating near the Lake Fork Trail Head, popular area for walking and cross country skiing, to determine what led to the shooting.

The shooting was first reported at Rock Creek Resort because that's where the caller went to get cell coverage to call 911.



RED LODGE - The Carbon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident Wednesday morning.

According to the agency's Facebook page, the incident happened south of Rock Creek Resort.

The post states there is no threat to the public, but not disclose whether any injuries were reported or whether any arrests have been made.

The agency asked the public to avoid the area.
