BOZEMAN, Mont. – A woman accused of fleeing police Saturday night before crashing into another vehicle and through the fence of a Bozeman nonprofit appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday.
Anna Alvarado, 19, faces a charge of criminal endangerment. Her bail was set at $35,000.
According to court documents, Bozeman police received two 911 calls around 11:07 p.m. on Saturday. One caller reported that Alvarado was banging on the door of an apartment in the 1200 block of North 7th Avenue.
A second caller reported hearing a gunshot and seeing an individual with a handgun drive off onto Oak Street in a silver-colored vehicle with a damaged front bumper. No further information about gunshots or a handgun was mentioned in court documents.
An officer on patrol saw a vehicle matching the description turn south off Oak onto North 7th. The officer initiated a traffic stop at North 7th and Durston Road.
Alvarado allegedly came to a stop but ignored commands from the officer to put her car in park. Court documents say she then drove off westbound on Durston and turned south on North 11th, reaching speeds exceeding 70 miles per hour as the officer pursued her.
When her vehicle approached the intersection of North 11th and Main Street, Alvarado reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a red Chevrolet passenger car. Her vehicle came to rest after crashing through the fence of the Cancer Support Community building.
Officers approached Alvarado’s vehicle and reported finding her unconscious, slumped over the center console. One officer had to break the driver’s window in order to unlock the door.
Alvarado was taken to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital, along with two injured occupants of the Chevrolet. After she was medically cleared for incarceration, she was transported to the Gallatin County Detention Center.
In Justice Court on Monday, Judge Bryan Adams stated that Alvarado represents a significant risk to the community when setting her bail. She also faces a probation violation for prior charges. Her defense attorney noted that she suffers from bipolar disorder and hasn’t been receiving her medication while in custody.
Alvarado is to have no contact with the victims in the incident. Her next court date is set for Feb. 8.
