BOZEMAN, Mont. – A transient man arrested in Bozeman on an outstanding warrant faces drug charges after police allegedly found materials for making methamphetamine in his backpack.

Samuel Hoyt Hubbard

According to court documents, a Bozeman police officer arrested Samuel Hoyt Hubbard, 36, around 6 p.m. Sunday. Hubbard, who had a warrant out of Madison County, was identified and arrested in a parking lot on the 300 block of North 7th Avenue.

Police reportedly found two baggies of a white, powdery substance and a glass pipe on Hubbard’s person while searching him after his arrest. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Officers also conducted an inventory search of Hubbard’s backpack, court documents state, and found drain cleaner, nasal decongestant, and a large amount of salt along with tubing and plastic bottles. A Drug Task Force deputy confirmed the items were consistent with a clandestine lab for manufacturing meth.

Hubbard appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday, charged with possession of dangerous drugs and operation of an unlawful clandestine laboratory. His bail was set at $25,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 21.
