Investigation underway after a body was recovered from the river in Great Falls

A body was recovered from the Missouri River in Great Falls on Saturday.

The Great Falls Police Department was notified at about 10:15 a.m. that a body had been seen in the river.

Officers recovered the body along River Drive just south of Central Avenue, across from the Electric City Water Park.

The GFPD utilized its drone to conduct aerial surveillance during the recovery effort.

The body was recovered just after noon, according to the GFPD.

Authorities have not yet said whether they have been able to identify the body, nor indicated the cause or manner of death.

Responding agencies included the GFPD, the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, and Great Falls Fire Rescue.

As of about 5 p.m., the area remains sealed off by police tape, and the GFPD Crime Scene Unit truck is still at the scene.

No other details have been released at this point; we will update you as we get more information.
