BUTTE – Since Gov. Steve Bullock issued a stay-at-home order last month, the Butte Emergency Food bank has seen greater demand for services.

“Oh, my gosh, we have seen an increase of almost 127 households within that last three weeks,” said Food Bank Director Kathy Griffith.

The food bank says cash donations are the best way to help keep the service going.

“Our shelves are going low and we’re purchasing as quick as we get the money in,” said Griffith.

To keep up with social distancing, the Food Bank is operating with fewer volunteers, and clients have to wait outside for packages.

“They no longer can come in the Food Bank, we have the doors looked and we have their boxes premade and they’re handed out,” said Griffith.

So for everyone who comes into the food bank, they get two of these boxes, which is about enough food for two weeks, and the folks here at the food bank say don’t be ashamed, don’t be too proud, if you need food during these difficult times come on down.

“Please, don’t hesitate, come up, you know, maybe you’ve never been in that situation before, but we’re here to help,” said Griffith.
