BUTTE — A member of Butte's Council of Commissioners says it's time to improve the intersection at Harrison Avenue and Amherst which she believes is becoming a safety issue.
Recent development in the area of this busy intersection is causing traffic problems and commissioner Michele Shea would like to have an arrow added for left turns off of Harrison Avenue on to Amherst, as well as adding lanes on Amherst to allow for smoother traffic flow. She says the congested area is causing safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians.
“I think it will increase safety for pedestrians as well, because when motorists are frustrated and unable to turn or to move in their vehicle, sometimes we make quick decisions that aren't always safe ones,” said Shea.
The council plans to take these concerns to the Montana Department of Transportation which is responsible for maintaining Harrison Avenue.
