BOZEMAN, Mont. – A Bozeman man and woman were charged with felony robbery after another man reported being robbed of $3,000 after being held up at gunpoint.

Thomas Riley Wegley, 18, and Addie Caitlyn Davis, 20, were seen in Gallatin County Justice Court Thursday morning and both were charged with felony robbery.

Wegley is being held on $150,000 bond and Davis faces a bond of $50,000.

According to charging documents, Bozeman police officers investigated a robbery that happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 12, 2018. At approximately 3:52 a.m. a man told officers that an unknown man pointed a pistol at him and stole more than $3,000 at Davis’ home.

The man told officers that he had cashed his employment check earlier that day and placed the money in an envelope, stored in his lunch cooler, which he had left in Davis’ home.

The man told officers that he had been gambling that later that evening with Davis and another man at a Bozeman bar. The victim told officers that he had given both Davis and the other man money to gamble during the evening and both of them knew he had a large amount of cash in an envelope.

After driving Davis home, the victim wanted to retrieve his cooler, which Davis said she would go inside and get for the victim. Davis reportedly never came back with the cooler, despite the man knocking on her door, with no answer. A short time after, the man received a text message from Davis to come back to her residence. When the man went back to Davis’ residence on the 1200 block of North 25th Ave. in Bozeman and spoke with her, she reportedly told the man she needed to use the bathroom.

After she went into the bathroom, an unidentified man opened the rear door, wearing a ski mask. The victim described the man as a 6’ man with brown hair who spoke with a soft voice. The victim told officers the man pointed a black, semi-automatic 9MM pistol inches from his face and demanded all of his money. When the victim showed the man he had no money in his wallet, the suspect demanded all his money in the “envelope.” The victim reportedly then gave all the remaining money to the suspect, who left the area. When the victim reported the crime to Davis, she denied a robbery had taken place.

After reporting the crime, the victim reported Wegley as the suspect to officers. After being contacted by police later in the morning, the second man who had been gambling with the victim and Davis indicated to officers Wegley was the suspect. The man also told officers that Wegley and Davis had previously been in a relationship.

When law enforcement and probation officers conducted a home visit to Wegely’s residence, a fully loaded black Springfield XD 9MM semiautomatic pistol was located in a bathroom duct. The pistol mirrored one stolen from a vehicle on Dec. 11, less than .4 miles from Wegley’s residence.

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Bozeman Police had taken a report of items taken from a vehicle on the 300 block of North Ferguson, including a black Springfield XD 9MM semiautomatic pistol.

When questioned, Wegley reportedly told officers that he was contacted by Davis who told him she wanted to rob a man with a large amount of cash. Wegley denied participating in the robbery but identified another man as the suspect. Wegley told officers that the man had hidden the firearm in his apartment in a bathroom duct.

When Davis was questioned, she said she had been at the Bozeman bar with the victim and another man, but when the victim drove her home she was concerned and wouldn’t let him into her apartment. Davis told officers in fear of her safety, she contacted Wegley and told him what happened and that the victim had a large amount of cash in an envelope. Davis told officers that Wegley reportedly said he wanted to steal the money. Davis told officers that Wegley ran over to her house and showed her a gun that he said was unloaded and he was going use it to scare the victim. Davis told officers that Wegley told her to text the victim and tell him to return and then go to the bathroom after she let him into the house.

Before Wegley was transported to the detention center, he did disclose that the cash was hidden in an electrical outlet in his bedroom. Officers found more than $2,000 in cash, which was seized and entered into evidence, along with the firearm.

Both Wegely and Davis are scheduled to appear in court next on January 4, 2019.
