BOZEMAN, Mont. – A Bozeman woman is facing a felony charge of intimidation after Bozeman Police responded to a report of a kidnapping in progress on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018.

According to charging documents, Kari Marie Andersen, 38, reportedly walked into a fenced backyard of a Bozeman home and confronted a father playing with his child, screaming: “Give me the child!”

Andersen allegedly has no relationship with any of the residents of the address, never met any of the residents prior to the meeting and was never invited into the backyard.

The father of the 2-year-old child told officers he was terrified Andersen was attempting to kidnap his child due to her aggressive demeanor. He said he held his daughter tightly to his chest, when Andersen reportedly stated, “don’t let him rape that kid” and advanced toward the pair.

Another resident of the home told Andersen repeatedly to leave.

Andersen did leave the backyard and reportedly fled the area in a rental car at a high rate of speed.

The father and another witness told officers that they were fearful that Andersen was about to physically take the child by force, describing the woman as irate and the situation as “terrorizing.”

Andersen was located later in the downtown Bozeman area and taken into custody.

When seen in Gallatin County Justice Court on Friday, Andersen denied being on the property. Andersen was charged with intimidation and faces a $25,000 bail and Level III order of protection. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2018.
