BISMARCK, N.D.- A Metro Area Ambulance airplane crashed in rural Morton County, N.D., killing all three medical professionals on board.
CHI St. Alexius Health says one of its registered nurses, along with a Bismarck Air Medical paramedic and pilot, died in the crash.
According to the Morton County public information officer, the plane took off at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Air traffic control lost radio contact with the plane around 11 p.m.
County officials say the Civil Air Patrol and a U.S. Air Force Rescue Team assisted the Morton County Sheriff’s Office with locating the plane.
Around 1 a.m. Monday, a debris field was discovered northwest of Mandan.
Officials say three people were aboard the plane. All three were killed in the crash.
“It is a sad day here for both our organizations. We are grieving for the family members of those who were on board,” said Kurt Schley the CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck President and Dan Schaefer of Bismarck Air Medical and Metro Area Ambulance Operations in a joint statement.
The Morton County Sheriff’s Office was still cleaning up debris and securing the scene as of 7:45 a.m. Monday. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
