GREAT FALLS — One person died and another was injured in the two-vehicle crash near Stanford.
The MHP says that a GMC pickup truck towing a utility trailer was westbound when for some reason it drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic.
An eastbound tractor trailer was unable to avoid crashing into the GMC pickup truck.
The 48-year old female passenger in the GMC died at the scene; her name has not been released.
The 40-year old driver of the GMC pickup truck was taken to Benefis Health System in Great Falls; the nature and extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
According to the MHP, both occupants of the GMC were from Clearbrook, Minnesota; neither was wearing a seatbelt.
The 51-year old male driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash; he was wearing a seatbelt.
Impaired driving and speed are not believed to have been factors in the crash, but the MHP report notes that the roads were snow-covered.
(1st REPORT, 11:03 a.m.) The Montana Highway Patrol responded to a crash in Judith Basin County on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, that involved at least one fatality.
It happened on US Highway 87 near mile marker 31, several miles northwest of the town of Stanford.
The MHP was notified of the crash at 9:29 a.m.
The Montana Department of Transportation says the crash involved at least two vehicles.
The eastbound lane is blocked as emergency crews work to clear the scene.
Roads throughout the area are snow-covered and slick.
