Chronic Wasting Disease is in Montana, but how widely spread is it?

The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks is working on trying to answer that question.

This Week in fish & Wildlife: CWD from last season

FWP’s Morgan Jacobsen tells Montana This Morning’s Chet Layman This Week in Fish and Wildlife that the agency sample nearly 7,000 animals last hunting season. That resulted in 142 positive tests, including for the first time in two moose and one elk. Jacobsen says hunters submitting tests accounted for about 15% of the totals, and a case found in the Twin Bridges area came from a hunter sample.

Jacobsen says Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD is a fatal that affects the nervous system of deer, elk, and moose. He encourages anyone wanting more information to head over to fwp.mt.gov and search for CWD.
