BOZEMAN — This week in Fish and Wildlife we talked with Morgan Jacobsen about bighorn sheep.

Thanks to a cooperative effort between several different groups including FWP and local landowners, a Bighorn Sheep population was recently returned to the Little Belt Mountains.

Fifty sheep were transported from an area in the southern Missouri Breaks region where the Bighorn Sheep population was as much as 20 percent over target size.

The animals 45 ewes and 5 young rams were moved by helicopter to an area where Bighorn Sheep haven’t been seen in more than 100 years.

Charlie Russell noted seeing them in the Little Belts and they’ve found pictographs of Bighorns not far from where the Sheep were released.
